Vector Aerospace: committed to investing in local engineering talent
This morning, Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services Fleetlands held its annual prize giving and indenture ceremony which saw 10 graduating apprentices receive their Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering awards. The ceremony marked an important step in the career of all 10 students, who are aged between 19 and 24, and who all live in the area surrounding Gosport.
The awards were handed out by local dignitaries including the Mayor and Mayoress of Gosport, Councillor Derek Kimber and Mrs Pat Kimber; the Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham, Councillor Ernest Crouch and Mrs Enid Crouch; and guest of honour, Vector Aerospace’s President and Chief Executive Mr Declan O’Shea. “From personal experience, I know that obtaining an apprenticeship can open many doors and Vector Aerospace is very proud to be able to give young adults the opportunity to increase and hone their skills right on their doorstep,” said Declan O’Shea.
This year’s Managing Director’s Prize went to Lianne Hickman, aged 22 from Gosport. Lianne decided to enter into a Mechanical Engineering apprentice scheme after completing her A levels and today said: “My studying days are not over as I want to enrol on more courses to further my career, but imminently, I’m really looking forward to my future at Vector Aerospace.”
The apprentice scheme at Fleetlands was originally set up by the MoD and has been running since World War II. In the last 16 years nearly 450 local apprentices have been trained here. Vector Aerospace took over the running of the scheme when it bought the business from the MoD in February this year.
