Powerboat Champions

Peter Phillipson of Southampton, a Team Leader in the Lynx helicopter flight test section of Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services Fleetlands, is celebrating winning the prestigious UK National V24 Powerboat Series.

Peter is navigator in the boat piloted by Lance Selby, a marine engineer from Poole. Powered by 320 hp Volvo Penta engines, V24 powerboats are capable of speeds of 75-80 mph, so handling them on the ‘ever changing track of the sea’ can be a very challenging experience.

Lance and Peter won two of the six races in which they competed with their boat ‘Vector Aerospace’. They clinched the title with a second place in Cowes on August 29th. Their success is all the more creditable in the light of their disastrous first outing, when their engine blew up.
